Pinckney
Molded Plastics, Inc. (PMP) was started in 1960 in
Pinckney, Michigan as a custom molder for
the automobile and furniture industries.
In
1963, the first bakery container was produced for the
A&P Bakeries and started a whole new trend to develop
proprietary products. By 1970, PMP had added the 1007,
1008, and 1010 baskets for the pillow pack roll market
and although revisions on those molds have been made,
all three are still very much in use. Other low-side
containers of this same design structure were also
added.
PMP’s concentration on obtaining larger presses
increased its ability to produce larger, and a greater
variety of new products. By 1979, approximately 50
different containers and pallet molds were in use with a
total of 8 presses. By 1985, PMP had outgrown the
existing plant and the company moved to Howell, Michigan, about 12 miles away.
This move added more warehouse production area and
office space. A rail siding was built in 1989, and
warehouse additions in 1990 and 1995 extended the
facility to its present size of 102,000 square feet.
PMP also increased the number of presses in Howell to
12, ranging in size from 700-1500 ton capacity, giving
it the ability to mold up to a 20-lb product. These
presses were directly connected to five material silos.
More molds were added, concentrating on bakery
containers that included three-level, two-level, and
movable bale, which incorporated multi-turn functions.
In 1984, PMP also obtained a line of shutter molds for
the home market, which now includes 14 sizes and 11
colors.
PMP
made its introduction into the dairy case market in 1996
and soon had four dual molds producing cases utilizing
automated equipment. Sales personnel were increased to
expand PMP’s dairy presence as a major producer. The
company further expanded manufacturing and sales
operations in 1997 through the opening of our Lakeland, Florida facility. This branch
has grown to include six presses and 57,000 square feet
of manufacturing, warehouse, and office space. With
this location, PMP now has 18 presses operating on a
24-hour, 7-day basis.
In
1999, the company acquired an ERP software system,
utilizing an AS-400 computer to further our information
flow and provide current data for customer service.
Communications were increased between locations through
Internet connections.
PMP’s range of products and customers grew in 2001 with
the development of the crate lock mold. This product
stabilizes crate stacking for multi-use storage in the
home and business. A new universal bakery basket was
developed in 2002 for Bimbo Bakeries, and a new
universal dolly, which is adjustable to various
dimensions, was also designed.
PMP
continues to sell proprietary products to an
international customer base. The company’s bakery
shipments have included customers across the United
States and in New Zealand, Europe, Mexico, and Central
and South America. PMP’s engineering, sales, customer
service, and manufacturing departments are prepared to
assist all customers in meeting their product transport
and home improvement needs. |
